The Department of Economics is one of the founder departments of this College. The vision of the department is to produce academic and professional leaders to strengthen the region and the country. This has been achieved by developing skills and team spirit among students through regular conventional and non-conventional teaching modes. Since its inception, the department started an undergraduate programme spread over three years.
The department focuses on theoretical and quantitative analysis in its curriculum. The main objective of the undergraduate programme is to equip the students with theories and tools of economic analysis in major areas of its application and focus on the emerging areas in the field of Economics. The department aims to develop multidisciplinary skills among the students to tackle complex economic issues.
The department offers introductory courses in Microeconomics and Macroeconomics. The department also offers optional specialized in-depth courses contributing to the understanding of major societal problems in areas such as Economic Systems, Economic History of India, Economy, Development Economics, International Economics, Money & Banking, Environmental Economics, Rural Economics, Demography, Public Finance, Mathematical Economics, Statistical Methods, Basic Econometrics and Research Methodology.
