The Department of Political Science, Government post-graduate Degree College Nerwa was established in the year 2002 and was taken over by the state government from S.D. College, Nerwa. It has been one of the highest educational institutions established in the tehsil of Chopal. Since its inception, the department of Political Science is running the under-graduate course in and having more than 300 students enrolled in the discipline. In the year 2021, the Department of Political Science started post-graduate course in the subject of Political Science with 30 number of seats being allocated by the University. The subject is having significant contribution towards guiding and teaching students in the discipline of political science.

The department of political Science tends to create an opportunity and contribute towards the development of an academic environment based on intellect, in which a peaceful and egalitarian society through the principles of equality and justice can be attained positively.

Mission:

To engage students with teaching of a high standard and quality in the field of Political Science with an interdisciplinary approach, whenever necessary.

To develop critical insight and create original, innovative and creative ideas through discourse and field experiences in the subject.

To pursue studies in socio-political processes with an aim to address challenges faced by the society at the regional, state and the global community levels.

To create awareness in the society about various social issues pertaining to men and women and their rights, liberties, freedom that individuals enjoy and to create future citizens with moral commitment to these values.

The Department has been trying to emphasise on Introduction to Political Theory, Indian Government and Politics, Comparative Government and Politics , Introduction to International Relations, Legislative Support, Public opinion and Survey research, Themes in Comparative Political Theory, Administration and Public Policy, Democracy and governance, Globalisation, Democratic awareness through legal literacy, Conflict and Peace Building, Society, Economy and Polities in Himachal Pradesh, Human Rights, Western Political Thoughts, Modern Indian Political Thoughts, Comparative Politics, International Politics-Theory approaches, Regional Politics in India, India’s Foreign Policy, Emerging World Order, Politics in South Asia, International Law, Theories of Nationalism and Process of Nation Building etc.

JOB PROSPECTS:

The students at under graduate level in the discipline is imparted knowledge to prepare them for National Level Competitive Exams and for various other openings like Banking, Business/Start-ups, Teaching at school levels etc. Further pursuing Post-Graduate (PG) studies is also available as an option to them. The students at PG level are trained and prepared for National Level Competitive Exams. To help them placed into various openings like Governmental and Non-Governmental Organizations, Banking, Business institutions, Teaching at school levels etc. Pursuing higher studies is also available as an option to them.

PROGRAMS OUTCOME:

After completion of the BA at the Department, students are expected to: Demonstrate a proficiency in area of Political Science in general and in particular about the basic principles of the discipline, comparative politics, Political philosophy, International Relations, Foreign Policies etc.

Demonstrate the understanding and the practical application of ethical standards as well as scientific temperament in public and private life.

Demonstrate the ability to understand, and critically analyse the political ideas. Demonstrate the competence for higher studies and/or careers in the public or private sectors.

After completion of the Master’s degree program in Political Science at the Department, students will be able to:

Demonstrate competence in advanced knowledge of Political Science.

Demonstrate proficiency in allied areas of the subject like National and International Politics, Theory and Practice.

Demonstrate their ability to express subject knowledge clearly, logically and critically both in verbal and written communication.

Demonstrate qualitative skills to analyse problems with empirical evidence Demonstrate the understanding and the practical application of ethical standards in their behaviour and approach in public and private life.

Demonstrate their competence for higher studies and/or careers in subject related jobs in the public and corporate sector.

FACILITIES:

The library at college is equipped with good number of books with national and international publishers in the discipline. The students can avail the service of the library. The College is facilitated with internet connectivity. The students of the department are having the facility to access internet in the computer lab.

FACULTY MEMBER:

Mr. Narender Negi (Head, Department of Political Science) He has been working in the department of Political Science since 2007 to till date. In the present, Head of the department of Political Science. He has done his M.Phil. in the political Science from Himachal Pradesh University and has participated and attended few numbers of workshops, seminars and Orientations and Training programmes with Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC) Panjab University, Chandigarh.

MILESTONES ACHIEVED SINCE INCEPTION:

Many of our former students are presently working as in premier colleges, institutes of the state and country. Our former students are also government servants working in various departments and teachers in various schools, colleges of the state.
