Zoology provides a deep understanding of the structure, behaviour and evolution of animals by using molecular and systems biology approach. It has wide applications in environment, animal diversity, industry, pharmacology as well as in biotechnology. The Department of Zoology is one of the integral parts of the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) medical, a three year undergraduate degree programme. The course is considered as a foundation course for the students who want to make their career in the field of Biological Sciences. After the completion of the course, the students may get admission in various post graduate courses like Masters in Zoology, Genetics, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Forensic Science etc. The department has one laboratory equipped with different models, specimens, charts, permanent slides, binocular microscopes and other equipments such as water bath, centrifuge machine, microtome, hot plate, magnetic stirrer, and oven.
Department of Zoology Program Specific Outcomes
1. Acquire knowledge on the various aspects of life sciences, cell biology, genetics, taxonomy, physiology, applied zoology and general embryology.
2. Recognize the relationships between structure and functions at different levels of biological organisations (cell, organ, tissue, organism, population and species) for major group of animals.
3. To explain how organisms function at the level of the gene, genome, cell, tissue, organ and organ-system. Drawing upon this knowledge, they would be able to give specific examples of the physiological adaptations, development, reproduction and behaviour of different forms of life.
4. Understand good laboratory practices and safety, carry out experimental techniques and methods of Physiology, Cell biology, Genetics, Biological techniques, Entomology, Sericulture, Biochemistry and Microtomy.
Our Vision
1. To impart basic education in Zoology.
2. To develop experimental skills of the students in the subject.
3. To develop research aptitude and scientific temper among students.
4. To inculcate critical thinking and analytical temper among students.
5. To promote holistic development through quality education in the subject.
