The Department of Zoology is an integral part of the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Medical programme, a
three-year undergraduate degree course at Govt College Nerwa. Zoology offers a deep understanding of
animal structure, behavior, and evolution through molecular and systems biology approaches. The subject
has wide-ranging applications in environmental studies, biodiversity conservation, industry, pharmacology,
and biotechnology.
The course serves as a foundational stepping stone for students aspiring to pursue careers in the
biological sciences. Upon completion, students may go on to postgraduate programmes in Zoology, Genetics,
Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Forensic Science, and related fields.
.
The department houses a fully equipped laboratory with various teaching aids, including biological
models, specimens, charts, permanent slides, and binocular microscopes. The lab also includes essential
instruments such as a water bath, centrifuge machine, microtome, hot plate, magnetic stirrer, and oven,
supporting hands-on learning and experimentation.
Programme-Specific Outcomes
- Students acquire comprehensive knowledge in life sciences, including cell biology, genetics,
taxonomy, physiology, applied zoology, and embryology.
- They learn to understand the relationship between structure and function at different levels of
biological organization, from cells and tissues to populations and species.
- The programme equips students with the ability to explain biological function at genetic, cellular,
tissue, and organismal levels, and to illustrate adaptations, development, reproduction, and behavioral
traits across the animal kingdom.
- Students gain familiarity with laboratory safety and acquire skills in physiological, cellular, and
genetic techniques, as well as in fields like entomology, sericulture, biochemistry, and microtomy.
Vision
- To impart a strong foundation in the fundamentals of Zoology.
- To develop students’ experimental and observational skills in biological sciences.
- To cultivate research aptitude and scientific temper among learners.
- To encourage critical thinking and analytical reasoning.
- To promote holistic student development through high-quality education in Zoology.
